About Stephen

Stephen Dasko proudly serves as City Councillor for Ward 1 and Regional Councillor for the Region of Peel. First elected in 2018 and re-elected for the 2022–2026 term, Stephen is a lifelong resident and passionate advocate for his community.

Born and raised in Ward 1, Stephen attended Mineola Public School and Port Credit High School. His deep roots in the community include playing hockey at Port Credit Arena and volunteering with local organizations. Today, he remains an active member of the Army Navy Air Force Veterans Club, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Lion’s Club.

As Councillor, Stephen serves on several community organizations as a board member and a number of committees at both the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel, where he works collaboratively to shape policy, advance infrastructure, and strengthen community services. Stephen is recognized for having over 500 community engagement meetings during his term to date.

Councillor Dasko is deeply committed to enhancing quality of life through initiatives that promote Arts and Culture in Mississauga, the creation of outdoor spaces such as the Skating Trail in Port Credit’s Memorial Park, and the development of new waterfront parkland and support for the creation of the new Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area. Stephen actively works with community groups to bring events to Ward 1 and supports numerous initiatives that showcase and empower local musicians and artists, helping to create a thriving cultural scene.

Stephen has witnessed decades of change in Ward 1 and remains committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive community. He and his wife Maria, along with their two Shih Tzu dogs, Skipper and Ginger, are proud to call Ward 1 home.

Accomplishments For Our Community

  • Resist irresponsible development while supporting acceptable proposals

  • Increased speed enforcement and reductions of speed limit in designated areas for local road safety

  • Effective slowdown signs, flexible bollards strategically placed, additional stop signs and stop lights installed

  • Motion to outlaw loud and modified exhaust systems, including more than 3,000 signatures on a community petition

  • Enabling improved resources for law enforcement

  • Port Credit library re-opened in 2024 - under budget and ahead of schedule

  • Re-shaping at the lakefront for community access with 145 acres of new waterfront parks

  • Cities largest flag at Lakefront Promenade installed October 2022

  • Disc golf courses, basketball and pickleball courts, adult fitness facilities and permanent chess tables added to parks

  • Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge over the Credit River to complete construction Fall 2026

  • New skating path in Port Credit Memorial Park - opened Winter 2023

  • Community task force to ensure we keep the port in Port credit

  • Updated Tree Protection By-Laws

  • Updated Concrete Cutting and Dust Mitigation for Residential Construction By-laws

  • AED Unit installed at Credit Village Marina

  • Parking lot paved with recycled material for the Small Arms Inspection Building

  • Enhanced the south parking lot at Small Arms adding parking and a new public space for gathering

  • Rehabilitation of natural environments, including Serson and Applewood creeks

  • Supporting local artists and music festivals

  • Working collaboratively on projects such as Elder Carolyn King’s Moccasin Identifier crosswalk in Lakeview and collaborated with the community and Mississauga‘s of the Credit on an Indigenous Arts Walk

  • Worked to have special crosswalks installed throughout the Ward including: Salmon Crossing at Stavebank and Lakeshore, Canada Crossing at Wenonah and Lakeshore, and the Remembrance Crossing at Park and Stavebank

  • Upgraded and enhanced existing parks adding and improving amenities

  • New Triangle Park - Stavebank just south of Lakeshore Fall 2025

  • Ogden Bridge to be re-named Mary Jane Miller Bridge

  • Collaborated to establish Stormwater Advisory Committee

  • Worked for a fairer return on Mississauga taxpayers’ dollars by championing the transition away from the Regional museum model in order to reinvest funding directly into local arts and cultural programs in our community
